The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Clinical Professor in the field of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) per May 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a combined position partly as Clinical Professor at Department of Clinical Medicine Aarhus University 50% of the time and a simultaneous employment as chief physician, in a relevant specialty, e.g. anaesthesiology. The university employment is conditional on a buy-out from the chief physician position.
The applicant needs to uphold a position as chief physician at a Danish or an international hospital to be qualified for the position. In case the candidate does not uphold a position as chief physician, the candidate needs to apply for this position as chief physician at Prehospital Emergency Medical Services here in order to be taken in to be taken in to consideration for the clinical professorship.
The appointment as clinical professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University is a five-year position.

As a clinical professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialties and takes place in close collaboration with the university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. Research & Development, Prehospital EMS, Central Denmark Region
As a clinical professor, you will be based at Research & Development (R&D), Prehospital EMS. The department was formally established at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aarhus University in 2011. Due to high professional competences, strong will and great effort R&D stands for a solid and attractive research environment, with the potential to achieve even more qualified science. The current research is fundamentally rooted in the medical science. However, the field of research is on the point of widen up to include the broader perspective of health services research as organisational and health work-force research. Thus, with the vision: Landmark knowledge for the benefit of the patient the research focus themes as outlined in the research strategy (2020-2025) are as follow: Critical decision making, Critical interventions and The human being and the system.
R&D aims at being known for an attractive research environment. This includes a strong professionalism, where orderliness, knowledge sharing and cooperation are highly valued. It is crucial that the professor contributes to this. R&D is characterised by it's highly professional team with a high pace. At the same time, it is recognised by a warm atmosphere.
R&D works in close collaboration with the entire EMS in Central Denmark Region. Therefore, research, development and implementation are closely integrated. We expect you to have a compelling vision for your research and clear ideas of its potential impact.

Your job responsibilities
As Clinical Professor of Prehospital EMS, you will have joint responsibility for the development of the department's research and teaching environment, and you will contribute to the implementation of the Pre-Hospital research strategy (Danish version).
You will offer and expand a platform for conducting research within the individual and across the prioritized research themes, in order to contribute to the further development of patient-centered research. All projects should contribute with impact to the prehospital services provided through the telephones, in the vehicles and in the helicopters around the clock, all year round. For in this way to create opportunity for continued development of the prehospital services to the benefit of the citizens.
Prehospital EMS research mostly involves different professional groups, different geographies as well as sector-crossing. Thus, you will have to contribute to ensuring continued and further involvement of relevant professional groups as well as a strong and flexible collaboration across the healthcare system, but also in collaboration involving private and public-sector stakeholders – local, regional, national and international.
You are expected to contribute – both independently and in collaboration with others – to the development of the department by leading research of high international quality and contributing to ensuring a high academic and didactic standard in the teaching. Qua your excellent collaborative skills and a broad academic network, you contribute to the academic development at Prehospital EMS as well as at Aarhus University and to the profile of the institutions both nationally and internationally.
Your main tasks will consist of:
Research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals and communicating your research in national and international academic networks.
Teaching, supervision and examination of undergraduate and postgraduate degree.
Contributing to the funding of your own research group through external research funding.
Supervision of PhD students and contributing to the development of the faculty's PhD courses.
Assessment and committee work at Prehospital EMS and at Aarhus University.
Research-based collaboration with private and public-sector stakeholders as well as research-based consultancy.
Dissemination of your research to the outside world – from highly scientific environments to everyday work in the EMS.
Research- and development-based collaboration with the management of the Prehospital departments.
To contribute as a key member facilitaitng the Prehospital EMS Research Committees a resource for R&D as well as for Prehospital EMS.
Together with the Head of R&D responsible for optimal operation and development of the department.
During your employment at R&D, Prehospital EMS, you will report to the Head of R&D, PhD Ulla Væggemose.
You have established yourself as a prominent researcher within a for EMS relevant specialty, e.g. anaesthesiology, and you possess solid research and teaching qualifications at a high international level. You have broad regional, national and international cooperative partnerships and great experience of research partnerships with private and public-sector stakeholders. You have also documented ability to attract external funding.
As a person, you are a helpful and motivational leader who inspires other researchers and builds trusting relationships with students, colleagues and partners. As a lecturer you communicate the newest and relevant knowledge in a committed, clear and comprehensible manner. As a supervisor you are competent, inspiring, supportive and responsible.
You are ready to take co-responsibility for the development of the department's research and education at the highest international level and for ensuring that we maintain a good work environment. You naturally involve yourself in interdisciplinary collaboration at departmental, faculty and university level as well as nationally and internationally.
We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.

Terms of employment
In making the appointment, emphasis will be placed on a high degree of original production at an internal level and experience from teaching at different levels as well as contributions to the development of teaching activities and teaching material, hereby documenting that the applicant has developed the academic discipline from a research and teaching perspective.
